Flower displays in conjunction with Thornhill Primary School
Beckermet & Thornhill Parish Council are delighted to have supported this scheme with a financial donation. We would like to congratulate everybody involved ‐ especially Thornhill Primary's Year 6 children ‐ on the beautiful floral displays they created.
Pre 2016
During the summer months the Thornhill Village Association (TVA) in co-operation with Home Group and the Parish Council, brightened up the village by planting up a number of containers with summer bedding plants. There was an attractive display at the entrance to the village which generated many favorable comments. During the dry sunny spell we enjoyed in August, the plants required watering every day.
In addition to the floral displays around the village the TVA in partnership with Home Group and support from the Parish Council organised a Best Kept Garden competition. The winners of the competition were; Best garden overall, Mr. & Mrs. Taaffe, Pleasant View, Dent Road; 2nd best overall, Annie Jeffery, 2, The Crescent; 3rd best overall, Marilyn Rickerby, 13, High Road.
In the various categories the winners were; Best hanging basket display, Mr. & Mrs. Russell, 3,The Crescent; Best container display, Mr. & Mrs. Mackie, 4, New Road; Best lawn, Mr. G Richards, 49, The Crescent; Best Hard landscaped garden, Mrs. V Coleman, 21, Thorntrees Drive; Best feature, Mr. & Mrs. Glaister, 43, Ehen Road; Best Home Group property garden, Mr. & Mrs. Cunningham, 21, Wodow Road.
The judges also selected 15 gardens which they decided should be Highly Commended.
